Among Thieves by David Hosp
Attorney Scott Finn gets in just about over his head when agrees to defend an old friend from the neighborhood he grew up in. It starts with agreeing to take care of his client’s daughter and quickly spirals into mob big wigs turning up tortured and murdered.

Hosp weaves the real 1990 Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist and the fictional case in what could have been a really great story. It was, but it also lacked character depth and imagination for me. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t one of those, “You’ve got to read this!” suspense/mysteries. It felt canned or phoned in. I read his 2006 book, Dark Harbor, and remember feeling that it was lacking something too.

File this under ‘Get it at the Library’ if at all.
